Three units are dedicated to component storage and picking; the fourth Vertimag is thermally insulated and equipped with temperature and humidity control for materials requiring specific storage conditions.<\/p><p><br \/>The project at NPE\u2019s Longarone plant addresses a challenge shared by many electronics and manufacturing companies: managing a high number of parts and references while keeping components available to production without increasing walking distances, floor space and manual handling.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-50ef298 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"50ef298\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">When the warehouse is organised, but operators still have to walk<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-285e573 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"285e573\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Before automation, electronic components were stored on conventional shelving. Shelves were divided into cells, locations were recognised by SAP and materials were managed according to FIFO \u2013 First In, First Out. Locations were digitally managed, but during picking operators still had to physically travel to the different storage positions.<\/p><blockquote><p><em>\u201cDuring picking, the operator moved between the different positions, covering quite a lot of space.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p><strong>Luciano Bucciarelli \u2014 Supply Chain &amp; Production Director, NPE<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><p>NPE wanted to concentrate storage and picking, reduce operator travel, increase storage capacity relative to footprint and make inventory activities faster and more controlled.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d4c9610 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d4c9610\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">From operator-to-material to material-to-operator<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-be548ea elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"be548ea\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>With Vertimag, the operating principle changes: requested components are brought to the picking station, reducing the need for operators to travel between storage locations. One of the four Vertimag units was therefore configured with thermal insulation and temperature and humidity control.
