Effe.bi. has been working in the light carpentry industry since 1987. Over the years, it has grown from a small craftsman business to become an international point of reference for various sectors where light carpentry is strongly needed, including the civil, industrial, naval, pharmaceutical, medical and nuclear industry, specializing in the production of components for air treatment and diffusion.
Being committed to continuous improvement, Effe.bi. decided to reorganize the storage space for semi-finished products and raw materials to be used for production in its new 7,500 square metre facility in the province of Sondrio.
Due to the company’s steady growth over the last few years, logistical efficiency and the optimisation of production areas had become increasingly important. Before switching to automated storage solutions, the company was in fact facing space problems, difficulties in picking activities and general disorder in the storage of semi-finished products and raw materials.
Ferretto Spa therefore supported Effe.bi. in the implementation of its project, which involved space reorganisation and flow optimisation, by automating processes through the introduction of two different solutions: the Vertimag vertical storage systems, dedicated to the storage of small parts, and the Steel Tower vertical storage system for metal sheets, to be used for the sheet metal cutting lines.
The switch to automation has completely changed the Effe.bi.’s approach to logistics, in particular with regard to the movement of goods within the company and the organisation of space.
The Vertimag vertical storage systems exploit the height of the production facility and offer a useful storage area of 200 square metres while occupying only 20 square metres of floor space.
To make operations easier, faster and more precise, the systems are equipped with sliding console, alphanumeric LED bar and laser pointer: these accessories support operators during picking, significantly reducing the risk of errors.
The Steel Tower system, which is dedicated to the storage of metal sheets, has allowed the company to streamline the preparation of the raw materials to be processed in the production department.
The integration of the storage systems in the company’s ERP, guaranteed by the management software developed by Ferretto Spa, has further improved the quality of logistics. In fact, the operators preparing the orders received from the system can always count on up-to-date inventory control, which optimises stock management activities.
The new logistical set-up has effectively met the needs of the company, which keeps growing, and allowed it to efficiently reorganize space while ensuring more order and cleanliness.
Moreover, process automation has made all picking activities faster and more precise, while creating a safer work environment.
